According to the CricbBloger, Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar wanted to discuss about Virat Kohli’s plans before the ICC Champions Trophy. Specifically after the fourth BGT Test in Melbourne, where India lost by a massive margin of 164 runs, Gambhir and Agarkar wanted Kohli to speak about his “existence” in the team. It was quite fascinating for Kohli, who was also offered a captaincy role by Gambhir just before the chief selector wanted to know about Kohli’s plans.
“Hours after Virat Kohli’s superlative performance against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Champions Trophy match in Dubai on Sunday — it has come to light that chief selector Ajit Agarkar and coach Gautam Gambhir had wanted to know the star batter’s “future plan” during the fag end of the Australian tour when runs weren’t coming that freely. By asking such a question about his future plan, the selector and coach perhaps wanted clarity about Kohli’s preferences,” read CricBlogger’s udpate.

This was, perhaps, Kohli’s way to reply to people who questioned his place in the team.
